First post from SCS

29/10/2014

This is my first post from SCS. Life here in SCS is very hectic. Many things going on at the same time, lessons after lessons. In fact, we do lesser physical training than in BMT. I think it's due to the fact that they only pick IPPT passes and above to enter command school. I already have my IPPT silver as mentioned in my previous post so I'm good there. Will be doing my first SOC orientation today evening, and IPPT again tomorrow.

Sports/games day is also happening this Saturday so we can only book out on Saturday. Parents are also invited in on Saturday to visit the accommodation and facilities of SCS.

On Monday, I'm finally presented with my specialist cadet rank. There was a parade just for the presentation. Everyone was standing there while our encik wore the cadet rank for us. Specialist cadet also means one step closer to becoming a commander, a sergeant to be exact.

Two months later from the day I enter into SCS, I will be getting my professional term vocation. Professional term will be another three months. Eventually ending with a combined term, where all the cadets come back to SCS to rehearse for one final parade. The parade after 6 months will also promote all the cadets to the rank of third sergeant (I hope and think there's another one week break for us )

Life here in SCS is very much different than life in BMT. SCS is ran by cadets. Cadets are given appointments to hold. Our 'platoon sergeant' are actually cadets too. This is to train us to be future leaders and to equip us with skills to command our men.

I guess I'll end it here. It's 6.22am right now. And I'm going to do my duties later!

With pride, I lead
As always, take care and I'll see you soon

SCS & IPPT Silver

This is my first week in SCS, and it is definitely more tiring compared to BMT. After a few weeks, there will be field camp, live firing, etc. SCS also means SCT pay, which is much higher than a recruit's pay. Things have changed so much since then. Just a blink of an eye, I already passed my BMT (4 months PTP batch), and now moving on to SCS as a Specialist Cadet!

Just had IPPT today, and got my first SCS's IPPT Silver! That also explains the reason why I'm home today, because I need not need to do Remedial Training (RT). Sad thing is, while doing my Standing Broad Jump, I fell and injured my right face, right arm, and left knee. I was using a lot of force on that jump and my right leg cramped just when I was doing the jump, causing me to fall to my right :(

I just finished cleaning my wounds at home. Damn, it hurts badly! Still, I managed to obtain an IPPT Silver :D
(Yea, with that freaking painful wound. That's the price that you have to pay to book out!)

Namecheap have a renewal discount on for 24 hours. I took the opportunity to renew my domain for another two years, extending it all the way to 2017!

As always, take care and I'll see you soon!

Disabled all Apple services...

I've just disabled iMessage and FaceTime on my now spare iPhone. I'm currently using Android (OnePlus One) full time, so those who want to contact me can just try WhatsApp or some other Google alternatives.

(I'm really busy nowadays, and I feel so tired)
Sorry for the orientation issue with the photos above. Apparently, Weebly doesn't recognize the original orientation set forth by my device. It looks fine on my laptop though...

ENB (LingSword AA) Power Bank case

ENB (LingSword AA)
I purchased this product about a month ago and prepared this post since then. I was still in the stage of testing this product before I could put out this post, so it was a bit delayed.

Today, I'm going to talk about a rather interesting product from ENB, the ENB (LingSword AA) Power Bank case. Yes, you read it correctly. It is a power bank case. To use this case, you will need to supply your own protected/unprotected 18650 3.6V/3.7V Li-Battery.

For my instance, I used two 18650 unprotected 2600mAh battery by Samsung SDI. Making it a 5200mAh power bank. You can supply a 18650 type battery that have a higher capacity and it will work accordingly too. You can even mix and match 18650 batteries with different capacity to achieve different total capacity.

I used two Samsung SDI (2600mAh) 18650 unprotected battery
I have put the power bank casing through its paces to see whether the power bank case performs as advertised. From the box, the case specification are as below.
  • Input: 5V 1A, MAX 1.2A, Output: 5V 2.1A
  • Charging Cut-off voltage: 4.2V, Discharging Cut-off voltage: 3V
  • Efficiency: 93%
  • Support one/two 3.6V or 3.7V 18650 Li-Battery (with/without protection board)
  • Using Japan SeiKo Li-Battery protection IC
  • Over discharging recovery
  • Charging management protection
  • MCU monitoring protection
  • Battery reverse protection (In case the 18650 battery is inserted wrongly)
  • Over current, over voltage, over discharging and short circuit protection
From my own testing, the battery case does indeed charge the 18650 battery to around 4.218V before the charging management protection kicks in to stop the charge. During discharging, the case also discharge the battery to approx. 3V. Therefore, I can conclude that the power bank case does perform as per specified. I measured the voltages using a Fluke multi-meter.

To show the current battery status, the 'energy-ring' also flashes the color of the remaining capacity
  • Red, 0% - 33%
  • Orange/Yellow, 33% - 66%
  • Green, 66% - 100%
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied and happy with the performance of the battery case as it managed to charge my device with a full 2A current (even with just one 18650 battery in the case, which is just amazing). One 18650 2600mAh power bank with the ability to charge at 5V 2A is just incredible. The only gripe that I have is that it charges at a relatively slow rate at 1.2A max. During my own calculations, I only manage to see it charging at 1A and not 1.2A.

Will make necessary edits in the future as I continue to use this product
As always, take care and I'll see you soon...

Weebly have been giving me problems recently. My website also got unpublished for whatever unexplained reasons. I'm suppose to receive my Oneplus One parcel on Friday. That also marks my full shift over to the Android platform, and using Android OS as my daily driver. I just hope that the phone doesn't have any problem so I can use the phone properly.

I will also try to keep my iPhone 5 (or maybe even iPhone 6?) with me though, while I slowly transition to the Android ecosystem. I had already made the necessary arrangements to make sure that the move to Android will be kind of seamless (Things like contacts, messages and applications).

I know very well that I will definitely miss the iPhone experience. iPhone is my first touch screen smartphone. Being a technology enthusiast, I hope to give the Android platform a chance to be my mobile OS of choice.

As always, take care and I'll see you soon...
(I try very hard to have content to put up here on my blog, but sometimes I just have nothing to write about)

BMT, are you ready?
ATTENTION!
RAWR!

One... Two... Three... Four...
We are the warriors of the SAF
Spirit of the bayonet in our blood
Brothers in arms, comrades for life
Against all odds, we will strive

BMT will thrash you AR, crush you AR
BMT will beat you AR, toughen you AR

RAWR!!!

Through basics, we excel
Through basics, we excel

ATTENTION!
Ladies and gentlemen, we are proud to present to you THE TRAINED SOLDIERS!
TOSSES CAP IN THE AIR!
We are the bedrock of our army
One thing to keep our people free
Committed to the independence of our nation
We are the men from the infantry

There will never be a mountain too high
Or a route too rough for us
We are about to rule the day and the darkest night
We will never rest till the wrong is right

From the land, air and sea
We will strike our enemies
They have called us the queen of the battlefield

We are brothers in arms
We are brothers proud to be
We are the first, the one and only infantry

We are a special band of soldiers
Raised to guard our nation's shores
We based our lives upon a set of 8 values
To defend our nation's cause

And when our country says she needs us
We are always there by her side
We will protect the lives of every Singaporean
For Singapore we will give our lives!
POP LOH!!

As always, take care and I'll see you soon ^_^
